Conditions we treat
Healthy feet are the foundation of an active, fulfilling life. At Lucky Steps Podiatry, we work with you to diagnose and treat a range of conditions, from ingrown toenails to plantar fasciitis. Learn more below about these conditions and see how we can help you achieve optimal foot health.

Heel and arch pain
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. It is a result of inflammation of the plantar fascia due to a number of reasons, some of which include foot posture, poor footwear, overload due to work/sport. Treatment will target offloading of the plantar fascia and address contributing factors.

Achilles and ankle pain
Pain in the Achilles tendon is most often due to overuse. Pain can be in the middle of the tendon or at the back of the heel where it attaches. After assessment and diagnosis, treatment will consist of strengthening, offloading and massages.

Metatarsalgia
Metatarsalgia is a general term for pain in the forefoot. There can be different diagnoses depending on the causing factor. This area also consists of many bones, tendons and ligaments. Some of these include Morton's neuroma, metatarsal stress fracture, plantar plate issues, bursitis among others.

Flat feet
Flat feet or "fallen arches" can be symptomatic or asymptomatic. Treatment is not always necessary but when it is associated with pain or feeling of discomfort/instability, change in footwear, orthotics and strengthening can help.

Bunions/Big toe pain
Bunions are commonly seen in the clinic and may be associated with pain or not. They can be debilitating especially when it comes to footwear. We will address different factors and start out with conservative measures. Surgery is the final resort but most patients should not need it.

Knee pain
Knee pain can be caused by osteoarthritis, overload, prior injuries or foot posture. Your knee pain will be assessed and you will be advised if your feet could possibly be contributing to your knee pain.

Shin splints
Characterized by pain in and around the tibia (shin bone)
and is usually brought about by a sudden increase in activity, especially running. Treatment revolves around offloading through activity modification, correcting foot alignment, strengthening and muscle release.

Growing pain in children
Painful conditions affecting children includes Sever's, Osgood Schlatter's, hypermobility, intoeing and other walking/running concerns. Foot health and lower limb strength can be worked on to address these concerns.

Ingrown nails
Ingrown nails can be very painful and affect quality of life. They can be caused by improper nail cutting, nail bed shape, tight shoes, or previous trauma to the nail. Treatment includes conservative care or nail sugery which aims to permanently remove a persisting ingrown nail

Calluses/corns
Calluses and corns build up as a consequence of increased pressure. Treatment involves debridement of the excess skin to increase comfort.

Warts
Warts can be mistaken for corns however warts are a result of virus infection, usually picked up from wet surfaces. The aim of treatment is to kickstart an immune response to rid the wart of the virus.

Blisters
Blisters are a result of friction from excessive rubbing in shoes/socks. If they are fluid-filled they can be deroofed safely, and the contributing factors can be addressed by placing foam felt in the shoes, advising on blister patches or addressing foot posture.
